# agentmemory — mandatory when opted in

When `recommended_tools.agentmemory.enabled_by_user` is `true` in `.silver-bullet.json`:

## Save (every session)

1. **Start server** if needed: `curl -sf http://localhost:3111/agentmemory/health` or `nohup agentmemory > ~/.agentmemory/server.log 2>&1 &`
2. **Use agentmemory MCP** (Cursor: `user-agentmemory` tools) to capture:
   - decisions, defects, round outcomes, workflow results
   - live E2E observations and ladder rung summaries
3. **Export root:** `.agentmemory/memory/` in the project — keep exports git-friendly per `.gitignore` rules.

## Retrieve — via Graphify only

**Do NOT** re-read raw agentmemory dumps for orientation when Graphify is enabled.

**Synergy:** **save via agentmemory, retrieve via Graphify.**

After saving, run `graphify update .` so memory exports index into `graphify-out/graph.json`, then `graphify query "<topic>"` for retrieval.

## Before substantive work

- Confirm MCP wired: `~/.cursor/mcp.json` contains `agentmemory`
- Hooks require fresh agentmemory usage (see `agentmemory-usage` state) when enforcement is active
- Pair every graphify query pass with agentmemory capture of what you learned

## Subagents

Every subagent prompt MUST include: use agentmemory MCP to save session notes; retrieve prior context via Graphify query, not ad-hoc file greps.
