- Platforms: Windows x64, macOS Apple Silicon (arm64), macOS Intel (x64). Installers are published on GitHub Releases. The Windows installer is not code-signed; the macOS installers are ad-hoc signed and not notarized.

- Interface languages: Chinese and English. Each book's writing language can be Chinese or English.

- Model presets: DeepSeek, SiliconFlow, BigModel (Zhipu), OpenAI, xAI (Grok), Google Gemini, Ollama (local), NovelAI, and custom OpenAI-compatible endpoints. The app does not provide or host models.

- Data: books live in the user's book folder and a local SQLite database. Model settings and API keys are stored in the app data directory on the user's computer (`%APPDATA%\ai-novel-writer` on Windows, `~/Library/Application Support/ai-novel-writer` on macOS).

- Workflow: library, setup, architecture (premise, cast, worldbuilding, plot outline), chapter blueprints, single-chapter drafting with AI review and diff-based revision, finalization, run sheet for generation runs, plot threads, knowledge base, version history, export to Markdown or plain text, local and WebDAV backups.

- Novel breakdown and imitation: import a reference novel (.txt, .md, .epub); AI breaks down its structure, extracts its style, infers chapter blueprints, and produces imitation constraints.

- Continuation: import an existing manuscript as finalized chapters and continue writing from it; in the prose editor, selected text can be continued, refined, expanded, or rewritten as dialogue.

- Rewriting: revise a whole chapter to the author's own instructions and selected review notes; the result is shown as a paragraph-by-paragraph diff for the author to accept.

- Writing skills: install prompt-only SKILL.md writing skills from GitHub (for example, a skill that removes the typical AI tone), review them before installing, and bind them to the planning, drafting, review, or revision stage. Scripts and tool requirements are not installed.

- Batch writing handles up to 10 chapters per run. There is no fixed limit on total chapters.

- The 1.3.0 release introduced the Paper and Ink interface and temporarily hides the assistant chat entry.
