markdownregistry.com ("the registry") is operated by Jack Brandt, an independent developer based in Detroit, Michigan. Writing to jack@dotcomjack.com reaches a person, not a queue.
Using the website, the API, the mdr command line tool or a private namespace means you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the registry.
1. What the registry is
Three things, and it helps to keep them apart.
The public registry indexes markdown files that AI agents read (SKILL.md, AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md, DESIGN.md, llms.txt and rules files) from public repositories on GitHub. It stores each version by content hash, grades it with an automated audit, and serves it back so you can install an exact version. It is free and needs no account.
The mdr command line tool installs artifacts, pins them in a lockfile, and tells you when an upstream file has changed. It is free and open to read at markdownregistry.com/mdr.mjs.
Private namespaces are paid hosting for your own markdown. The regular price is $12 per month per namespace; the current early-access price is $4 per month, and subscribing at $4 keeps $4 for as long as the subscription runs without a gap. Billing terms live in Cancellation and refunds.
2. Public artifacts belong to the people who wrote them
This is the most important section on this page.
The registry does not write the artifacts in the public index. It mirrors files that were already published in public repositories on GitHub, keyed by content hash, so that an install can be reproducible.
- Every public artifact remains the property of its author and is governed by that repository's own licence, not by these terms. The registry displays the licence it detected and links to the source repository and commit.
- The registry grants you no rights over anyone else's artifact. When you install one, your use of it is between you and the author under their licence.
- Detected licence metadata can be wrong or missing. If the licence matters to you, check the source repository before you use the file.
If you are the author and you want a file gone, write to jack@dotcomjack.com with a link to the artifact page. Removal requests from authors are honoured, and this overrides the registry's usual promise that a stored version is immutable: when a file is removed on request, its stored versions are deleted rather than kept.
Copyright complaints. The registry has a designated agent registered with the United States Copyright Office (registration DMCA-1077665). Send a notice that complies with 17 U.S.C. 512(c)(3) to:

Repeat infringers are removed from the index.
3. The audit grade is a signal, not a warranty
Every version is graded A to F by deterministic checks that look for things like prompt injection patterns, attempts to exfiltrate data, and instructions to pipe a remote script into a shell.
An audit grade is not a security guarantee, a code review, or a promise that an artifact is safe to run. The checks are mechanical, they are not exhaustive, and a grade A artifact can still be harmful. You are responsible for reading and deciding what your agents run. The registry publishes the grade so you have more information than a star count, and that is all it claims.
4. Your account
Accounts sign in by emailed link. There is no password.
You are responsible for the security of your email inbox, your session, and any API tokens you create. A token is shown once, and the registry stores only a hash of it. If a token leaks, revoke it on the namespace page. Tell us at jack@dotcomjack.com if you think an account has been used without permission.
One person, one account. Do not share a sign-in link.
5. Your content in a private namespace
You keep every right you already had. Publishing to a private namespace grants the registry a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, hash, audit, back up and serve that content, solely so the service can deliver it to you and to the members you have added. Nothing more, and nothing outside your namespace.
- Private artifacts are not indexed, not listed publicly, and not served to anyone outside your namespace.
- Your content is not used to train any model.
- You are responsible for having the right to publish what you publish, and for not publishing anyone else's secrets, credentials or personal data.
6. Acceptable use
Do not:
- publish or distribute malware, credential stealers, or content designed to make someone else's agent exfiltrate data;
- use the registry to infringe copyright or breach someone else's licence;
- attempt to reach another namespace's content, another account's data, or any administrative endpoint;
- scrape or hammer the API in a way that degrades it for other people, or work around a rate limit;
- resell the public index as a competing directory without adding anything to it.
The registry may remove content and suspend accounts that break these rules. Where it is reasonable to do so, you will be told why.
7. The API
The public API is open and free, offered as-is and without a rate guarantee. It may be rate limited, changed or withdrawn. Anything you build on it should tolerate that. Cache what you can and identify your client.
8. Availability
The registry is run by one person. There is no uptime commitment and no service level agreement, on the free tier or the paid one. Maintenance, outages and breaking changes happen. Because installs are pinned to a content hash and stored in your lockfile, an outage should stop new installs, not break a build you have already pinned.
9. Changes to these terms
These terms may change. Material changes affecting paying subscribers are announced by email to the address on the account at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the registry after that is acceptance. If you do not accept a change, cancel, and see Cancellation and refunds.
10. Ending things
You may stop using the registry at any time, and cancel a subscription at any time.
The registry may suspend or close an account that breaks section 6, that is used fraudulently, or that is required to be closed by law. If an account is closed for a reason other than a breach by you, any unused portion of the current paid month is refunded.
11. Disclaimers and limits
The registry is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. No warranty is given that the service will be uninterrupted, that an audit grade is accurate, or that mirrored content is safe, lawful or correctly licensed.
To the fullest extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or exemplary damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or damage caused by an artifact you chose to install. Total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid in the 12 months before the claim, or $50.
Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, in which case they apply only as far as that jurisdiction permits, and nothing here removes a right you cannot waive by law.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, United States, without regard to conflict of law rules. Disputes go to the state or federal courts located in Wayne County, Michigan, and both sides consent to that venue.
