# gadak > gadak caches the Jira Cloud projects and Confluence spaces a person chooses > into one SQLite file on their own machine — issues, comments, change history > and wiki pages, indexed together. Reads are local: search and issue views > open no connection. Writes go to Jira first and the cache refreshes after > Jira accepts. A desktop app, a browser tab (`gadak serve`), a CLI and a > coding agent all read the same file. No telemetry, and no gadak account. > Status: 0.21, still 0.x. Apache-2.0, one maintainer. ## For an agent working on someone's tracker Install gadak, run `gadak sync`, then read the cache with `gadak sql` or the MCP tools. Two rules carry most of the value: 1. **Never filter on a display name.** Jira translates status, priority and issue-type names per account, so `status = 'In Progress'` or `priority = High` returns zero rows on a Korean- or Japanese-language site, with no error. Use `status_category` (`new` | `inprogress` | `done`), `status_id`, `priority_rank` and `issue_type_id`. 2. **SQL answers; the window presents.** `gadak sql --no-header "…" | gadak views open --keys -` puts a result on screen, and `gadak views open --jql '…'` lands pasted JQL as filter chips. The promised query surface is the `issues_full` view plus the recipes in AGENTS.md. `gadak skill install` writes a SKILL.md for Claude Code and starts no process; `codex`, `agents`, `cursor`, `gemini`, `opencode` and `grok` take the same file. An agent that reads the cache sends what it reads to whatever model it talks to — gadak itself sends nothing. ## Docs - [README](https://github.com/midagedev/gadak/blob/main/README.md): what it is, and the first run - [Agent setup](https://github.com/midagedev/gadak/blob/main/docs/AGENT_SETUP.md): one paste per host - [Schema and query recipes](https://github.com/midagedev/gadak/blob/main/AGENTS.md): `issues_full`, the query contract, worked SQL - [Concept](https://github.com/midagedev/gadak/blob/main/docs/CONCEPT.md): the cache model, and what it is a bad fit for - [Support matrix](https://github.com/midagedev/gadak/blob/main/docs/SUPPORT_MATRIX.md): Jira, Linear and the built-in tracker, cell by cell - [Benchmarks](https://github.com/midagedev/gadak/blob/main/docs/BENCHMARKS.md): method, measurements, and the rows where gadak loses - [Install](https://github.com/midagedev/gadak/blob/main/docs/INSTALL.md): every platform - [Security](https://github.com/midagedev/gadak/blob/main/SECURITY.md): every outbound destination and its condition - [Fact ledger](https://github.com/midagedev/gadak/blob/main/docs/project/FACT_LEDGER.md): what every front door must carry, and what this file is written from ## Try - [Live demo](https://gadak.dev/demo/): the real UI over a scrubbed 534 issues sample, nothing installed - [Korean landing](https://gadak.dev/ko/) · [Japanese landing](https://gadak.dev/ja/): parallel editions, not translations - [Changelog](https://gadak.dev/changelog/): every release, with issue keys linking into the backlog - [Public backlog](https://gadak.dev/backlog/): gadak's own issues, served by gadak - [Source](https://github.com/midagedev/gadak): Go and Svelte, Apache-2.0 ## Install - macOS app, CLI included: `brew install --cask midagedev/tap/gadak` - CLI only (macOS, Linux): `brew install midagedev/tap/gadak-cli` - Windows app: the [Microsoft Store](https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9NZW91TXH36G) listing, which signs it and puts `gadak` on `PATH` - First run: `gadak init && gadak sync && gadak serve`, which prints `http://gadak.localhost:7777` - Pick the scope up front: `gadak init --projects ENG,PROD --spaces ENG`. The wiki stays off until spaces are named. - No Atlassian account: `gadak init --local` starts a workspace on the built-in tracker. ## Connecting an MCP client Two commands, and they are not interchangeable: - `gadak mcp install claude-desktop` writes the entry Claude Desktop reads. This is the line for hosts without a shell. - `gadak mcp install claude` registers with Claude *Code* (it runs `claude mcp add`). Claude Desktop never sees it. `gadak_search`'s primary argument is `query` (aliases `text`, `q`). ## Measured 2026-08-26, against a live Atlassian Cloud site with 3,296 issues. Medians; gadak figures include CLI process startup. Free-text search 543 ms → 41 ms. Open issues per epic (`GROUP BY`) 4,761 ms over 8 API pages aggregated client-side → 22 ms in one query. The first full sync of that site took 3.7 minutes, and the cache trails Jira by one sync interval.
