# envit > Declarative repository context and skills for coding agents. A committed > envit.json declares the external repos an agent can read and the skills > it loads. One command materializes both: commit-pinned, read-only, > stored once per machine in a content-addressed store, reproducible in > any environment from the lockfile. envit is a single static Rust binary. Git is embedded (gitoxide): no system git, no daemons, plain git protocol against any forge. Repos appear under .envit/repos/ as symlinks into the machine store. Skills land in .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/. A generated .envit/AGENTS.md (with a CLAUDE.md symlink) inventories the context for agents. Core commands: envit init | add | sync [--frozen|--offline] | update | pin | unpin | skills | status | gc. Global scope: envit init -g writes ~/.envit/envit.json; skills apply to every project on the machine. ## Docs - [Landing page](https://envit.dev/): manifest format, commands, on-disk layout, constraints - [Agent skill](https://github.com/plannotator/envit/tree/main/skills/envit): teaches an agent how to use envit ## Install - [Unix install script](https://envit.dev/install.sh): detects OS/arch, installs the latest GitHub release - [Windows](https://envit.dev/install.ps1): pending; use WSL today ## Source - [Repository](https://github.com/plannotator/envit): Rust workspace, MIT OR Apache-2.0
