Draft is a plugin that adds a knowledge graph engine, spec-driven planning, and a three-stage review pipeline to AI coding agents — so they stop guessing and start executing pre-approved work, grounded in real understanding of your codebase.

## Installation

Install with the npm CLI (host = claude-code | cursor | codex | opencode):

For Claude Code you can alternatively use the native marketplace (`/plugin marketplace add drafthq/draft` then `/plugin install draft`). GitHub Copilot and Gemini read a committed instructions file copied directly from the repo. See the getting started guide.

## Core Workflow

0. `/draft:review` — Works with zero setup on an un-indexed repo. Start here.

1. `/draft:init` — Analyze codebase, generate context files, build the knowledge graph

2. `/draft:plan` — Collaborative spec and plan creation (routes to specialist commands)

3. `/draft:implement` — TDD execution with checkpoints

4. `/draft:review` — Three-stage code review, now with graph-backed structural checks

## Key Concepts

- **Context-Driven Development (CDD):** Structured documents constrain and guide AI behavior

- **Tracks:** Isolated units of work with spec.md, plan.md, metadata.json (now includes blast-radius impact memory)

- **Incremental Refresh:** File-hash-based re-analysis of only changed files

- **Init Output Modes:** `/draft:init` is tier-gated (`DRAFT_INIT_MODE`). `monolith` (small repos) keeps a single graph-primary architecture.md; `okf` (larger repos) emits an OKF concept taxonomy under `draft/wiki/` as the source of truth, with .ai-context.md as the index root and a generated architecture.md view.

- **Knowledge Graph Engine:** codebase-memory-mcp: tree-sitter + LSP, 159 languages, 100% local. Query tools: callers, callees, impact, cycles, hotspots, mermaid. Incremental, git-aware indexing.

- **Zero-Setup Review:** `/draft:review` does not require `/draft:init`. With no `draft/` directory it resolves scope from git, runs automated validation plus the four code-quality dimensions, renders the report inline without writing to the repo, and names the checks it could not run (blast radius, callers, cycles, module boundaries). Indexing is an upgrade, not a prerequisite.

- **Deterministic Tools:** 53 shell helpers under `scripts/tools/` for mechanical work — git metadata, file classification, hotspot ranking, freshness checks, ADR indexing, citation verification.

## Graph Engine

Draft's knowledge graph is powered by [codebase-memory-mcp](https://github.com/DeusData/codebase-memory-mcp) by [DeusData](https://github.com/DeusData) — a tree-sitter + LSP-grade, 159-language, 100% local graph engine with no API key required. Fetched and checksum-verified on install. The `/draft:graph` command builds the `draft/graph` snapshot.
