Use the installed String MCP tool for String apps, SFMD, web pages, shell sessions, and commands like /open, /act, /install, or /set.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Using String
You have the installed String MCP tool named `string`; some hosts display it with a server prefix.
Call it with `{ topic, cmd }`, for example `{ "topic": "main", "cmd": "/info" }`.
Use topics like `main`, `app:<name>`, `app:<name>:<config>`, `bash:<name>`, or hubs `app`, `tool`, `bash`, `system`.
`cmd` must start with `/`; use `/help`, `/info`, and `/act --help` to discover what to do.
Use `/open` to read files, URLs, or apps; installed apps can run `/act.<name>` directly from `app:<name>` if you already know the action.
Use `/install` to add apps; `/set $VAR = "..."` for app credentials.
Read the payload inside `<𝒞=string:TOPIC>...</𝒞>` and follow `Recovery:` or `next:` hints.Read the whole file at its exact version.
How to install
mdr add string-os/string/using-string@sha256:2393fe6374e650e3The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260604.a9cc30b, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
