'Uses the Linux Audit framework (auditd) with ausearch and aureport utilities.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Analyzing Linux Audit Logs for Intrusion ## When to Use - Investigating suspected unauthorized access or privilege escalation on Linux hosts - Hunting for evidence of exploitation, backdoor installation, or persistence mechanisms - Auditing compliance with security baselines (CIS, STIG, PCI-DSS) that require system call monitoring - Reconstructing a timeline of attacker actions during incident response - Detecting file tampering on critical system files such as `/etc/passwd`, `/etc/shadow`, or SSH keys **Do not use** for network-level intrusion detection; use Suricata or Zeek for network traffic analysis. Auditd operates at the kernel level on individual hosts. ## Prerequisites - Linux system with `auditd` package installed and the audit daemon running (`systemctl status auditd`) - Root or sudo access to configure audit rules and query logs - Audit rules deployed via `/etc/audit/rules.d/*.rules` or loaded with `auditctl` - Recommended: Neo23x0/auditd ruleset from GitHub for comprehensive baseline coverage - Familiarity with Linux syscalls (`execve`, `open`, `connect`, `ptrace`, etc.) - Log storage with sufficient retention (default location: `/var/log/audit/audit.log`) …

How to install
mdr add adriannoes/awesome-agentic-ai/analyzing-linux-audit-logs-for-intrusion@sha256:36728ade3067bbc6The line at the top of this page pins the label v1.0.0, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
