Condense any input — an idea, brief, PRD, transcript, or mixed notes — into a short spec: one kernel file plus supporting files that downstream skills build from. Also updates and validates existing specs. Use when the user says "create a spec", "distill this into a spec", "validate this spec", or "update the spec".
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# BMad Spec
## Overview
Canonical transformer for the BMad spec-kernel ecosystem. Takes any intent input — vague idea, brain dump, PRD, GDD, RFC, brief, Slack thread, customer email, meeting transcript, mockups, mixed multi-source — and produces **spec-{slug}.md** carrying the five-field kernel (Why, Capabilities, Constraints, Non-goals, Success signal) plus companion files for load-bearing content that does not fit or would bloat the kernel with expansive line-item detail. Together they are the machine contract every downstream BMad skill consumes.
Multiple skills may call to update the same spec over time.
## Conventions
- Bare paths (e.g. `assets/spec-template.md`) resolve from the skill root.
- `{skill-root}` is this skill's install dir; `{project-root}` is the nearest folder containing `_bmad/`, starting at the working dir and moving up through its parents.
- `{workflow.<name>}` resolves to fields in `customize.toml`.
## On Activation
1. Resolve customization: `node {project-root}/_bmad/ade-runtime.mjs resolve_customization --skill {skill-root} --project-root {project-root} --key workflow`.

How to install
mdr add alvin-reyes/better-agentic-ide/bmad-spec@sha256:5f3dc355378171ccThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261011.3352d02, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
