Authors and runs Windows UI tests against the WinAppDriver UIA surface via both invocation paths - the direct Microsoft W3C-WebDriver service (installing + launching `WinAppDriver.exe` on `127.0.0.1:4723`, `app` / `platformName` / `appArguments` / `appTopLevelWindow` capabilities) and the actively-maintained Appium 2.x wrapper (`appium driver install windows`, `appium:` prefixed capabilities, `windows:` gestures, PowerShell prerun/postrun hooks). Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. WinAppDriver exposes Microsoft UI Automation (UIA) - the Windows accessibility tree described in `desktop-test-strategy-reference` - behind a W3C-WebDriver-compatible HTTP endpoint. How to install
mdr add testland/qa/winappdriver@sha256:8b48317c53a9539eThe line at the top of this page pins the label v1.2.17, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
