supercollider-language SKILL.md skillA
This file is byte-identical to the first copy the registry indexed. Same content hash, so the same checks give both the same grade.
supercollider-language from vecnode/vn-code is an agent skill: a SKILL.md folder an AI agent loads when a task calls for it.
mdr add vecnode/vn-code/supercollider-language@git:20261006.209a27dPins git:20261006.209a27d in mdr.lock. Pin the fingerprint instead.

The SuperCollider language itself - function blocks and argument syntax, UGen rate methods (.ar/.kr/.ir), multi-channel expansion, var scoping, ~environment variables, the class library's shape, and the error messages that mean a specific mistake. Written for an agent that knows audio DSP but not this language.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# The SuperCollider language
SuperCollider's language is small and peculiar. It is worth ten minutes here,
because its failure modes are quiet: a wrong rate method compiles and sounds
wrong; a misplaced `var` is a syntax error with a message that reads oddly; a
number where a signal belongs broadcasts into an array in a way that is usually
what you want and occasionally not.
## Everything is a message
`1 + 2` is `1.+(2)`. `SinOsc.ar(440)` is the class `SinOsc` receiving `ar` with
`440`. There is no operator precedence to memorise beyond the arithmetic you
expect, and every "operator" can be written as a method call:
```supercollider
(1 + 2).postln;
(1.add(2)).postln;
```
Chains are read left to right:
```supercollider
SinOsc.ar(440, 0, 0.1).distort.tanh.postln;
```
## Function blocks
Curly braces are a **function**, not a scope. It does not run until something
calls it.
```supercollider
{ 1 + 1 }; // a Function. Nothing happens.
{ 1 + 1 }.value; // 2
{ 1 + 1 }.postln; // prints a Function, not 2
```
Arguments go between pipes at the front:
```supercollider
{ |a, b = 10| a + b }.value(1); // 11
{ |a, b = 10| a + b }.value(1, 2); // 3
```

How to install
mdr add vecnode/vn-code/supercollider-language@sha256:26b0e9c29a1a3b26The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261006.209a27d, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
