Use when preparing or checking the tax treatment and PAYG withholding of an Australian termination payment, including the genuine redundancy tax-free limit, the ETP cap and the whole-of-income cap.

# Termination payment and redundancy workpapers ## Inputs The termination letter and reason, employment start and end dates, the payment breakdown by type (redundancy, gratuity, payment in lieu of notice, unused leave, unused sick leave or rostered days off, compensation), the employee's date of birth, any earlier ETPs for the same termination or in the same income year, year-to-date taxable income, and the payroll system's withholding calculation. ## Workflow 1. Classify each component. List any unused annual or long service leave payments separately and confirm at the ATO whether each is an ETP. Record the evidence for each genuine redundancy condition the ATO lists; a missing condition leaves the redundancy characterisation `UNVERIFIED` for the reviewer. 2. Genuine redundancy: compute the tax-free limit for the income year (base limit plus the amount for each complete year of service), from the ATO table. Only the excess over the limit is an ETP. …
