Write programs in the Vera programming language. Use when asked to write, edit, debug, or review Vera code (.vera files). Vera is a statically typed, purely functional language with algebraic effects, mandatory contracts, and typed slot references (`@T.n`) instead of variable names.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Vera Language Reference Vera is a programming language designed for LLMs to write. It uses typed slot references instead of variable names, requires contracts on every function, and makes all effects explicit. ## Installation Vera requires Python 3.11 or later. Node.js 22+ is optional (only needed for `vera compile --target browser` and browser parity tests). **Recommended — install from the GitHub source checkout.** The checkout is the full environment this file teaches from: alongside the compiler and the `vera` CLI it carries the bundled `examples/`, the conformance suite in `tests/conformance/` (minimal working programs, named by spec chapter and feature), and the specification in `spec/`: ```bash git clone https://github.com/aallan/vera.git && cd vera python -m venv .venv && source .venv/bin/activate # Windows: .venv\Scripts\activate python -m pip install -e . ``` For an editable source install with the language server, use `python -m pip install -e ".[lsp]"` — see [LSP_SERVER.md](LSP_SERVER.md). Verify the install end to end with the bundled example: ```bash vera check examples/hello_world.vera # prints "OK: examples/hello_world.vera" …
Read the whole file at its exact version.
How to install
mdr add aallan/vera/vera-language@sha256:c12fa06d57080e06The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261021.27f18f3, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
