Diffs two GraphQL schemas with `graphql-inspector diff`, classifies each change as BREAKING / DANGEROUS / NON_BREAKING, and applies opt-in rules (suppress-removal-of-deprecated-field, consider-usage, ignore-description-changes) to gate CI on schema regressions. Use when reviewing GraphQL schema changes in a PR or evaluating Federation supergraph drift.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# graphql-schema-regression ## Overview GraphQL Inspector is a schema-management CLI from The Guild that validates GraphQL schemas and detects changes between two versions ([gqi-overview][overview]). It classifies every change into one of three tiers ([gqi-diff][diff]): | Classification | Meaning | |----------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------| | **Breaking** | Will disrupt existing clients (removed fields, narrowed types). | | **Dangerous** | Won't immediately break clients but may cause issues (e.g. union member added). | | **Non-breaking** | Safe additions (new fields on existing types, new types). | [overview]: https://the-guild.dev/graphql/inspector [diff]: https://the-guild.dev/graphql/inspector/docs/essentials/diff The tool exits non-zero when breaking changes exist, exits zero otherwise - the gate is the exit code. This is the GraphQL-specific counterpart to `openapi-contract-diff`. Use it when the API surface is GraphQL (single schema or Apollo Federation supergraph) instead of REST. ## When to use …

How to install
mdr add testland/qa/graphql-schema-regression@sha256:711b60327d8ba44cThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260724.d4db756, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
