monitoring-observability SKILL.md skillA
monitoring-observability from travisjneuman/.claude is an agent skill: a SKILL.md folder an AI agent loads when a task calls for it.
mdr add travisjneuman/.claude/monitoring-observability@git:20260930.c8d311dPins git:20260930.c8d311d in mdr.lock. Pin the fingerprint instead.

OpenTelemetry, structured logging, distributed tracing, alerting, and dashboards. Use when instrumenting services, designing logs/traces/metrics, defining SLOs and alerts, or debugging production behavior from telemetry.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Monitoring & Observability ## Overview This skill covers the three pillars of observability -- traces, metrics, and logs -- along with alerting, dashboards, and health check patterns. It focuses on OpenTelemetry as the vendor-neutral standard, structured logging for queryability, distributed tracing for microservice debugging, and SLO-based alerting to reduce noise. Use this skill when instrumenting applications for production visibility, setting up monitoring infrastructure, debugging distributed systems, configuring alerts that matter, or building dashboards for operations and product teams. --- ## Core Principles 1. **Instrument at boundaries** - Trace every external call (HTTP, database, queue, cache). Internal function tracing adds noise; boundary tracing reveals system behavior. 2. **Structured over unstructured** - Every log entry must be JSON with correlation IDs, service name, and context. Unstructured logs are unsearchable at scale. 3. **Alert on symptoms, not causes** - Alert when users are affected (error rate, latency SLO breach), not when a specific server metric spikes. Symptom-based alerting reduces noise by 80%. …

How to install
mdr add travisjneuman/.claude/monitoring-observability@sha256:8c5f34a3d69b0a75The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260930.c8d311d, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
