Use when writing or updating docs, READMEs, changelogs, ADRs or PR text, or when a change alters setup, commands, APIs or documented behavior.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Docs
Docs are part of the change. When behavior, setup, commands, config or an API changes, the docs that describe it change in the same diff. When nothing a reader relies on changed, leave the docs alone.
## 1. Find what drifted
Grep for every changed name: command, flag, env var, config key, route, function, error message.

Also check `--help` and usage strings, docstrings and comments, `.env.example`, OpenAPI or GraphQL schemas, example and template files, and in-app help text.
- Replace stale instructions. Old and new steps side by side leave readers guessing which one works.
- Write what users need to act. Leave implementation detail out unless it changes what they do.
Done when: every hit is updated or confirmed still true.
## 2. Pick one mode per doc
Diátaxis splits docs by what the reader is doing:

How to install
mdr add umararshad4/honey-stack/docs@sha256:8ae71a29b5859ca6The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261017.c52b424, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
