# Designing a sequence through the MCP tools
A sequence here is a `.sqdf.json` document: **SQDF**, the third document of the loom beside
SMDF (behaviour) and ERDF (data). It tells one usage scenario — who sends what to whom, in
order — and it names what its siblings define, so the loom can check it and walk it through
the machines.

joins a sequence to its machines and its ERD is `rispecs/82-sysdf-system.spec.md` and the
`stateloom-system` skill.

## Step 0 — The active document's type is its extension
`.smdf.json` machine, `.erdf.json` ERD, `.sqdf.json` sequence, `.sysdf.json` system. The
sequence tools act while the active document is a `.sqdf.json`. `create_sequence` also moves
the active document there.

How to install
mdr add jgwill/miadi-orchestration-kit/stateloom-sequence@sha256:432cde381cc08622The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260930.051133f, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
