Use when reviewing a CSS architecture for specificity issues, setting up a design system, or migrating a large codebase from utility-first to a layered architecture.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Use @layer to manage CSS cascade order explicitly Specificity conflicts are one of the most common causes of CSS bugs in large codebases. Developers resort to !important, deeply nested selectors, or inline styles to win specificity wars, creating an unmaintainable arms race. Cascade layers move the source of truth for cascade order from selector specificity to explicit layer ordering, making the system predictable and easy to reason about. ## Quick Reference - Declare your layer stack at the top of your main CSS file to fix order regardless of import sequence - Styles in later layers win over styles in earlier layers, regardless of selector specificity - Put third-party/reset styles in early layers so your own styles always override them - Unlayered styles (no @layer) have the highest priority — migrate gradually ## Check Check whether the CSS uses cascade layers to manage specificity, and whether the layer order is explicitly declared. ## Fix Introduce @layer declarations for reset, base, components, and utilities, and migrate existing styles into appropriate layers. ## Explain …

How to install
mdr add thedaviddias/front-end-checklist/cascade-layers@sha256:def9fdee604a536cThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261004.4b0ddb9, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
