Use when auditing slow page loads, heavy assets, or rendering delays related to Reduce DOM size and complexity. Verify the actual bottleneck in DevTools, Lighthouse, or field data before recommending changes.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Reduce DOM size and complexity An excessive DOM size increases memory usage, slows down style calculations, and makes layout reflows more expensive, leading to poor interaction performance. ## Quick Reference - Keep total DOM nodes below 1,500 - Avoid deep nesting (maximum depth < 32) - Use virtualization for long lists of elements ## Check Check the total number of DOM nodes and the maximum DOM depth using Lighthouse or Chrome DevTools. ## Fix Simplify the HTML structure, remove unnecessary wrapper elements, and implement virtualization for large lists. ## Explain Explain the performance impact of a large DOM tree on memory and rendering speed. ## Code Review Review the routes, assets, and loading behavior that affect Reduce DOM size and complexity. Flag exact files, requests, or rendering steps that add unnecessary network, CPU, or layout cost, and describe the measurement method used to confirm the issue. --- For full implementation details, code examples, and framework-specific guidance, see `references/rule.md`. How to install
mdr add thedaviddias/front-end-checklist/dom-size@sha256:f63953c51ebef740The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261004.4b0ddb9, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
