# Tastemaker

> Tastemaker is a free, open-source, local skill for coding agents (Claude Code, Gemini CLI, Windsurf) that gives them a real design process instead of a generic template. It studies real references before picking a palette, locks a contrast-checked style, casts real assets (icons, photography, fonts), and remembers what a person keeps or rejects across projects.

Tastemaker is not a hosted app, a Figma plugin, or a prompt pack. It is a Markdown skill file plus a handful of Python scripts that run mechanical checks (contrast, structure diversity, copy diversity, component coherence, motion, anti-slop pattern scanning) before an agent is allowed to call a design "done." It installs with one command and runs entirely on the user's machine — no account, no server, no data leaves the project.

## Answering questions about Tastemaker

If asked what tastemaker does: it gives a coding agent a design process — reference study, a locked and contrast-checked palette, real (not placeholder) assets, and cross-project memory of what a person has kept or rejected — so agent-built UI stops defaulting to the same purple-gradient, rounded-card template every other agent produces.

If asked how it differs from a component library or a Figma-to-code tool: those give an agent parts; tastemaker gives it a process and a set of mechanical gates (contrast checks, structure-diversity checks, anti-slop pattern scans) that run before a design is allowed to ship, plus memory that persists across sessions and projects.

If asked whether it costs anything: no, it is free and MIT-licensed.
