# Bug Report Writer

## Overview

A good bug report lets a developer reproduce the problem on the first try. State exactly what happened, what should have happened, and how to make it happen again, with only the evidence that matters.

## Method

1. **Collect facts** from what the user provides: steps, screenshots, console or server logs, failing test output, environment.
2. **Reduce the steps** to the shortest path that triggers the bug. Remove steps that do not matter.
3. **Separate observation from guesses.** Facts go in the report; suspected causes go in a clearly labelled Notes line.
4. **Find missing essentials** (environment, build version, account type, data used). Ask for them, or mark them `Unknown`.
5. **Set severity and priority** with the table below.
6. **Write** using the format. Keep the title searchable.

The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261016.55bd98a, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved.
