Guides choosing a repository's architecture — topology (monolith, modular monolith, microservices, serverless) or code organization (layered, by-domain, hexagonal, clean/onion). Use when picking or restructuring either, not for generic project setup.

Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

What the file says

# Architecture Pattern Advisor

## When to Use

Help the user pick the architecture that fits *their* project, then help implement it. The decision spans two independent axes — **system topology** (how many deployable units) and **code organization** (how one unit is structured internally). They compose: a system is, for example, a *modular monolith + by-domain + hexagonal boundaries*.

- "Which architecture / pattern should I use for this project?"
- "How should I structure this repo?" / "organize the code?"
- "Monolith or microservices?" / "should I split this into services?"
- "by-domain vs by-layer", "hexagonal / ports & adapters", "clean architecture", "onion"
- Restructuring an existing repo whose layout has become hard to maintain

**Not for:** generic project bootstrapping with no shape decision ("run `uv init`", "create a new file", "set up CI").

## Workflow

Follow these steps in order. Do not skip step 2 to reach a recommendation faster — the diagnosis is what makes the recommendation honest.

### 1. Establish context: new or existing repo

How to install

The exact contents, by fingerprint
mdr add fabiandistler/agents/architecture-pattern-advisor@sha256:daa9053ba4577f9e

The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261021.4a95a85, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
