Comprehensive toolkit for validating, linting, and testing GitHub Actions workflow files, custom local actions, and public actions. Use this skill when working with GitHub Actions YAML files (.github/workflows/*.yml), validating workflow syntax, testing workflow execution with act, or debugging workflow issues.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# GitHub Actions Validator ## Overview Validate and test GitHub Actions workflows, custom actions, and public actions using industry-standard tools (actionlint and act). This skill provides comprehensive validation including syntax checking, static analysis, local workflow execution testing, and action verification with version-aware documentation lookup. ## Philosophy - Lint first, execute second: `actionlint` is fast and needs no Docker, so it always runs before `act`. - Every reported error maps to a documented fix in `references/`; quote that fix rather than improvising one. - Treat security findings (script injection, unpinned actions) as defects, never as style preferences. - Static analysis has limits: state plainly what `actionlint` and `act` cannot prove. ## When to Use - Validating a workflow file under `.github/workflows/` before commit or merge - Debugging a workflow that fails syntax, expression or schema checks - Testing a workflow locally with `act` before pushing - Checking that public actions use current, non-deprecated versions - Reviewing a workflow for script injection and other `actionlint` security findings ## When Not to Use …

How to install
mdr add pantheon-org/tekhne/github-actions-validator@sha256:541a8fe500d13114The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261001.6ed2a6a, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
