Work with SuperCollider projects as files - the shape of a .scd piece, how to read and write one with sc_project, how to send the file that is on disk into the live session with sc_load, what state belongs in the session and what belongs in the file, and how to package a piece the SuperCollider way (a folder with its .scd, its SynthDefs, and a Quark-style layout) instead of inventing a format.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# SuperCollider projects
SuperCollider has no project file and no build system. What it has is a
convention, and it has held for twenty years:
> **A piece is a folder with a `.scd` file in it, and everything the piece needs
> is either in that file or in `Extensions/` next to it.**
That is the whole format. Respecting it means the user can open the folder in the
SuperCollider IDE, in Emacs, or in the editor vncode ships, and everything works.
## `.scd` files
A `.scd` is a plain text file of sclang. Three shapes are idiomatic:
**A score — the whole piece runs top to bottom.**

How to install
mdr add vecnode/vn-code/supercollider-projects@sha256:0c42db310e80b7a0The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261006.2a421d0, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
