Design, build, diagnose, and evolve agent harnesses: instructions, tools, execution environments, durable state, context management, verification, recovery, bounded autonomous loops, and software factories that repeatedly turn incoming work into accepted deliverables. Use for director/worker production systems, factory steering, unreliable coding agents, cross-session drift, premature completion, harness audits, or changes to the runtime around a model, including bounded typed-decision routing.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. # Harness Engineering Engineer the system around the model so an agent can start, act within authority, observe results, recover, and finish with evidence. Scaffolding is one entry point; existing harnesses may need fewer files, better tools, or removal of stale rules. Default to the smallest change that addresses an observed failure. For a **software factory**, design the recurring production system: intake, responsibility boundaries, artifact flow, integrated acceptance, authorized delivery, and feedback. A director is its conversational coordinator; a harness is the execution/control infrastructure. Start with the factory outcome and load [the factory procedure](references/software-factory.md), not a generic collection of agent personas. Keep business operating-model decisions with operational-design and ai-operating-economics through the catalog handoffs. ## Authority and first move Confirm the target, scope, and rollback path before acting. Read-only discovery may proceed without confirmation. Use existing user authorization when it covers these facts; do not ask again for routine reversible work.
