Local hybrid search for markdown notes and docs. Use when searching notes, finding related content, or retrieving documents from indexed collections.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# qmd - Quick Markdown Search Local search engine for Markdown notes, docs, and knowledge bases. Index once, search fast. ## When to use (trigger phrases) - "search my notes / docs / knowledge base" - "find related notes" - "retrieve a markdown document from my collection" - "search local markdown files" ## Default behavior (important) - Prefer `qmd search` (BM25). It's typically instant and should be the default. - Use `qmd vsearch` only when keyword search fails and you need semantic similarity (can be very slow on a cold start). - Avoid `qmd query` unless the user explicitly wants the highest quality hybrid results and can tolerate long runtimes/timeouts. ## Prerequisites - Bun >= 1.0.0 - macOS: `brew install sqlite` (SQLite extensions) - Ensure PATH includes: `$HOME/.bun/bin` Install Bun (macOS): `brew install oven-sh/bun/bun` ## Install `bun install -g https://github.com/tobi/qmd` ## Setup ```bash qmd collection add /path/to/notes --name notes --mask "**/*.md" qmd context add qmd://notes "Description of this collection" # optional qmd embed # one-time to enable vector + hybrid search ``` ## What it indexes …

How to install
mdr add alsk1992/cloddsbot/qmd@sha256:a5881d351968fcb3The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260129.ab2c057, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
