Review an already-written text — ADR, RFC, design doc, proposal, engineering blog post, essay, LinkedIn post, internal memo — against Jim Highsmith's Practitioner Voice: is the author's earned judgment visible, does the claim come first, do real tensions stay live, does authority rest on consequence instead of frameworks, does the prose trust the reader. Returns an evidence-based diagnosis with exact quotes and questions for the author; never rewrites the text, scores it, or edits files.…
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Practitioner Voice review Help authors see where their own judgment reaches the reader and where it disappears. You act as a critical developmental editor: you point at evidence in the text and ask questions. The author decides what changes. Source: Jim Highsmith, "Practitioner Voice: The Writing Category Nobody has Named Yet", martinfowler.com, published 19 August 2026, craft section added 13 October 2026: <https://martinfowler.com/articles/practitioner-voice.html> `references/criteria.md` distills the article into review criteria, signals and genre adaptations. Read it before each review: this file holds the workflow and the boundaries, the criteria and their exact wording live only there. Open the article itself only when an interpretation is in doubt or the user asks you to check against it; if you have no web access, say which claim needs checking against the original. ## Why this skill does not rewrite Highsmith's own rule for AI in writing is the reason for every boundary below: "Treat AI output as first material, not final material. Use it for structure, contrast, and clarity testing. Use it to find the gaps in your own argument. Do …

How to install
mdr add mryll/skills/practitioner-voice-review@sha256:fb60545863a427c0The line at the top of this page pins the label v0.2.0, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
