Identify workflows the user performs that are not yet encoded as skills in the agents repository, and prompt to create or backlog them. Drives a self-reinforcing improvement loop.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# Identify Skill Gaps
Surfaces manual workflows that could become skills, then prompts to scaffold or backlog them.
## Prerequisites
- agents repository available at `~/agents` (for reading the existing skill library)
- Optional: `{BASE_DIR}/skill-backlog.md` (created if it does not exist when the user chooses backlog)
- Optional: activity context from the current session (summaries, standup, review files) to infer today's workflows
## Steps
### 1. Inventory existing skills
List all directories under `~/agents/skills/`.
This is the current skill library.
### 2. Extract workflows from context
From any activity context available in the session (GitHub summary, Slack summary, overall summary, standup, review, or conversation), identify distinct **repeated or multi-step workflows** the user executed.
Focus on:
- Things done more than once, or done the same way as on previous days.
- Multi-step tasks that follow a clear pattern (collect → process → write → send).
- Anything the user said "I always do X when Y" about, explicitly or implicitly.
- Manual steps that produced an artifact (a doc, a message, a PR, a report).

How to install
mdr add tomzx/agents/identify-skill-gaps@sha256:f4afd399e1c51271The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261007.b35fc4b, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
