Check a single spreadsheet, deck, PDF or document for internal mistakes before it goes out — totals that don't reconcile or cross-foot, error cells, shares over 100%, duplicated rows, sign errors, stale as-of dates, placeholders left in, mixed units, and a summary that contradicts its own detail — ranked into what blocks sending and what merely invites a question. Use when someone asks whether a file is right, safe to send, consistent, or free of embarrassing errors, or wants it checked…
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Sanity check > "This goes to the CFO in an hour. Is there anything embarrassing in it?" Not *are these the right numbers* — no file can answer that. **Is this artifact internally consistent, and will it survive a reader looking for holes?** This is the five minutes a careful colleague spends cross-footing the totals, checking the date, and noticing that slide 1 and slide 9 disagree. **The product is the severity ranking.** A flat list of eleven nitpicks is worth the same as no list, because the reader has an hour and will read three lines. Deciding what *blocks sending* is the skill. **This is a one-artifact skill.** Given two periods and asked what changed, that is `whats-changed`'s job, not this one — see *Boundary* below. ## Workflow ### 1. Take the artifact One file: `.xlsx`, `.xlsm`, `.csv`, `.tsv`, `.pptx`, `.pdf`, `.docx`, or pasted text. Read it with `references/extraction.md`, which also tells you what each format hides — you cannot find a hardcoded cell in a PDF, and you must say so rather than implying the file is clean. **Ask nothing unless genuinely blocked.** At most two questions, and only these: …

How to install
mdr add raghuramsirigiri/raghuram-skills/sanity-check@sha256:47c5620dc5d5db1cThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260921.0b51875, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
