Interview the user about a plan, decision, or idea one question at a time until you agree. Use when "grill me", "stress-test this plan", "interview me about this", "poke holes in this", "challenge my thinking", or before a non-trivial design.

Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

What the file says

# Grilling

**Degree of freedom: MIXED.** Which branch to walk and how hard to challenge
`[HIGH freedom]`; one-question-at-a-time, recommend-an-answer, and
no-act-until-confirmed `[LOW freedom — run exactly]`.

> The most common failure mode in software work is misalignment: the agent builds
> what it *thinks* was asked. A grilling session closes that gap before any work
> starts. Adapted from [mattpocock/skills](https://github.com/mattpocock/skills) (MIT).

Interview the user relentlessly about every aspect of the plan, decision, or idea
until you reach a shared understanding. Walk down each branch of the decision
tree, resolving dependencies between decisions one by one.

Copy this checklist and tick items as you go:

```
- [ ] Step 1: Read repo, docs, git history, tickets before the first question
- [ ] Step 2: Resolve dependencies in order; upstream decision first
- [ ] Step 3: Ask one question at a time, with a recommended answer and why
- [ ] Step 4: Challenge vague terms; propose a precise one
- [ ] Step 5: Do not act until the user confirms shared understanding
- [ ] Step 6: Close with the decision log in the user's words; hand off
```

How to install

The exact contents, by fingerprint
mdr add kensaurus/skills/workflow-grilling@sha256:9d45856ee016df46

The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261019.95c89e5, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
