Transcribe audio files to text using a local Whisper ASR service. Use when: the user wants to transcribe an audio file to text, convert speech to text from an audio recording, extract text from voice recordings, or needs transcription of podcasts/interviews/voice notes. Only works for English language audio. The skill saves the transcription to a text file in the agent's local folder.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# Transcribe Audio
Transcribe audio files to text using the local Whisper ASR service running at `http://localhost:9000`.
## Prerequisites
- The Whisper service must be running (check with `curl http://localhost:9000/health`)
- Audio file must be in a supported format: OGG, MP3, M4A, WAV, or WebM
- Audio must be in **English** (the local model is English-only)
## Usage
### Basic Transcription
To transcribe an audio file:

### Save to File
Save the transcription to the agent's local folder:

1. **Verify the service is running:**

How to install
mdr add valtterimelkko/agent-workflow-skills/transcribe-audio@sha256:bfc3ebcf20ff73e1The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260611.919d9c9, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
