fragment-shaders SKILL.md skillA
fragment-shaders from vecnode/vncode is an agent skill: a SKILL.md folder an AI agent loads when a task calls for it.
mdr add vecnode/vncode/fragment-shaders@git:20261020.d4d0e38Pins git:20261020.d4d0e38 in mdr.lock. Pin the fingerprint instead.

Writing a fragment shader that looks like something - the full-screen triangle, uv space, signed distance fields, noise and fbm, domain warping, raymarching budgets, tone mapping and banding. Every example compiles. Read this when the task is "make it look good", not "make it compile".
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Fragment shaders that look like something
A fragment shader runs once per pixel and returns one colour. Everything below is
about making that colour depend on the pixel's position and the clock in a way a
person wants to look at.
## The frame: one triangle, no vertices to speak of
You do not need geometry. A single triangle covering the viewport, drawn with
`gl.drawArrays(TRIANGLES, 0, 3)`, covers every pixel. The vertex shader is:
```glsl
attribute vec2 a_position;
void main() { gl_Position = vec4(a_position, 0.0, 1.0); }
```
and the buffer is three vertices: `(-1,-1) (3,-1) (-1,3)`. The corners are outside
the viewport on purpose - the visible part is the full square. `shader_target
target=frag` writes both files for you.
## uv space, and the aspect ratio trap
```glsl
precision highp float;
uniform vec2 u_resolution;
uniform float u_time;
void main() {
// centred uv: x and y both run -0.5..0.5 on the SHORT axis
vec2 uv = (gl_FragCoord.xy - 0.5 * u_resolution) / min(u_resolution.x, u_resolution.y);
float d = length(uv);
float ring = 0.5 + 0.5 * sin(d * 30.0 - u_time * 2.0);
gl_FragColor = vec4(vec3(ring), 1.0);
}
```
…Read the whole file at its exact version.
How to install
mdr add vecnode/vncode/fragment-shaders@sha256:7ae0089704923cbaThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261020.d4d0e38, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
