Build-an-X for cron / scheduler job tests - cron-expression validation patterns (5-field standard `min hour day-month month day-week` + 6-field with seconds + named-list extensions), DST + leap-day edge cases, missed-execution detection (machine downtime catch-up), overlapping-run protection (lock + stale-lock recovery), timezone semantics. Use when authoring tests for cron jobs, Kubernetes CronJobs, BullMQ repeat-jobs, Sidekiq schedulers, or any time-based job runner.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# cron-job-test-author ## Overview Cron jobs are universally underspecified. Most teams ship cron expressions, never test them, and discover bugs when DST or a leap day rolls around. This skill is a **build-an-X workflow** for authoring cron-job tests - a checklist + per-pattern test recipes, not a single tool. ## When to use - Authoring or reviewing tests for any time-scheduled job: - Unix cron (crontab) - Kubernetes CronJobs (`apiVersion: batch/v1`) - BullMQ `repeat` jobs (Step 6 of `bullmq-tests`) - Sidekiq schedulers (sidekiq-cron, sidekiq-scheduler gems) - APScheduler (Python) - Quartz (Java) - Hangfire (.NET) ## How to use 1. List every time-scheduled job in scope (crontab, Kubernetes CronJob, BullMQ repeat, Sidekiq, APScheduler, Quartz, Hangfire). 2. Validate each cron expression with `croniter` (or a language-native validator), parametrizing known-good and known-bad expressions (Step 1). 3. For any job near a DST transition or a leap day, compute next-run times with `croniter` against `zoneinfo` and assert them (Step 2). 4. Decide and test the missed-execution policy for downtime - Unix drop, k8s …

How to install
mdr add testland/qa/cron-job-test-author@sha256:378d11a7afd0682cThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260726.19ddd36, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
