Runs parallel implementation competition at the design→implementation transition: dispatches 2-5 agents that each create their own plan from the shared design, then tests and the judge pick the winner. Use when design is complete and implementation is about to start — "let's build", "implement this", "looks good let's code", "ready to implement", or after a design doc is committed.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# Cookoff
Same design, multiple cooks compete. Each implementation team creates their own plan from the shared design, then implements it. Natural variation emerges from independent planning decisions.

**Key insight:** Don't share a pre-made implementation plan. Each agent generates their own plan from the design doc, ensuring genuine variation.

## When to Use
Trigger when user wants to implement a design:
- "Execute this plan" / "Implement the plan" / "Let's build this"
- After brainstorming completes and design doc exists
- Can also invoke explicitly: "cookoff this"

How to install
mdr add 2389-research/test-kitchen/cookoff@sha256:808b143a31c549a3The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260925.33f8804, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
