# Codegraph partner
OSB and codegraph are complementary, not overlapping. OSB owns the vault
(Markdown prose, the Brain layer, preferences, paid-action audit). The
codegraph CLI and its MCP server own the code-symbol graph of a
repository - callers, callees, impact radius, AST. This skill teaches the
agent to detect codegraph in the current scope and to use, recommend, or
stay quiet about it, depending on what is actually nearby.
This skill never installs, initializes, or writes data for codegraph
itself. Those actions stay in the user's hands or in codegraph's own
installer.
## Step 1 - detect
Run these checks in order. Stop at the first state that matches.
1. CLI presence: `which codegraph` (or, in Bun runtimes, `Bun.which("codegraph")`).
2. Code-project signal in the current working directory: a `.git/`
directory plus at least one of `package.json`, `pyproject.toml`,
`Cargo.toml`, `go.mod`, `tsconfig.json`, `Gemfile`, `composer.json`,
`build.gradle`, `pom.xml`.
3. If neither cwd nor the user's named project is a code project, look
at the vault's parent directory and inspect the top-level entries

How to install

This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
