upstream-contribution SKILL.md skillA
This file is byte-identical to the first copy the registry indexed, one of 4 indexed copies. Same content hash, so the same checks give both the same grade.
upstream-contribution from jakeselby/model-citizen is an agent skill: a SKILL.md folder an AI agent loads when a task calls for it.
mdr add jakeselby/model-citizen/upstream-contribution@git:20260929.1af83d7Pins git:20260929.1af83d7 in mdr.lock. Pin the fingerprint instead.

Contribute from a fork to a repository you do not own without burning maintainer trust. Use when the working repo has an `upstream` remote, when the user says "open a PR against <someone else's repo>", or before the first commit in any repo the user is a guest in.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Upstream contribution **This repo is not yours.** It belongs to its maintainers, with their own queue, their own conventions and their own history of unmerged good intentions. Act like a guest. ## Remotes `origin` is **your fork**. `upstream` is the project, and its push URL is set to `no_push`: ```bash git remote set-url --push upstream no_push git remote -v # origin = fork, upstream = project (no_push) ``` The remote you type by reflex is the one that is safe to push to. **Never commit to local `main`** — keep it a clean mirror of upstream so rebases stay trivial: Before replacing a fork branch, inspect `git status --porcelain --ignored` and the commits unique to it. Stop if there are local modifications, untracked or ignored work, or unpublished commits; preserve them outside the checkout or in a task branch first (ignored files need explicit preservation). Never use a hard reset as an automatic cleanup shortcut. For a clean mirror with no unique work, fetch and fast-forward: ```bash git fetch upstream git switch main git merge --ff-only upstream/main ``` If that refuses, report the divergence; an intentional reset needs explicit authorization. …

How to install
mdr add jakeselby/model-citizen/upstream-contribution@sha256:394c2f400cf219d6The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260929.1af83d7, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
