Write a timestamped, secret-redacted snapshot of decisions, progress and next actions to the checkpoints directory, then link it from the active session log. Use when you say `checkpoint this`, `save a recovery point`, or `snapshot where we are` before a risky change or at the end of a working block. Do NOT use to commit or push (it never does either), and do NOT use to write a retrospective (use retro).
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

Migrated from the checkpoint command under ADR-064, which makes skills the
single user-invocable surface. The command file is gone, so its path is named
here in plain text rather than as a citation to something a reader could open.
## The checkpoint and session directories
Resolve them the way `paths.artifact_dir` does, then take its `checkpoints/` and
`sessions/` subdirectories. Do not hard-code an agent-artifacts path: the tree
this skill writes into lives in the CONSUMER's workspace, and its root differs

How to install
mdr add rjmurillo/ai-agents/checkpoint@sha256:0b6ba4bec0b33b30The line at the top of this page pins the label v1.0.0, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
