Designs and implements architecture fitness functions — automated CI checks that fail the build when a characteristic such as modularity, layering, coupling, security, or resilience erodes. Use when making CI enforce architecture rules.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Fitness Functions ## When to use Whenever someone wants to "enforce architecture rules", "stop devs from breaking the layering", "prevent cyclic dependencies", "add an ArchUnit / dependency-cruiser / import-linter test", "automate architecture governance", or "keep the architecture from eroding", asks how to make an architectural decision stick in CI, or mentions fitness functions, evolutionary architecture, or chaos engineering as governance — even without the term "fitness function". Not for measuring the current coupling/cohesion of existing code (→ `members/coupling-cohesion/SKILL.md`) or choosing an architecture in the first place (→ `members/architecture-pattern-advisor/SKILL.md`); both are read via the `architecture` router. An **architecture fitness function** is any automated check that scores how close the codebase or running system stays to the architect's intent — a perspective on tools you already have (tests, metrics, monitors, chaos), wired into CI so important-but-never-urgent concerns like modularity don't erode one import at a time. Concrete tool-by-tool implementations live in [references/tooling-catalog.md](references/tooling-catalog.md) — read it once …

How to install
mdr add fabiandistler/agents/fitness-functions@sha256:229d30f8a97ce13aThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261025.ebda69c, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
