Guides a classical ML project — framing, baselines, model choice, missing data, deployment, retraining. Use when training a model on your own data, not when building an LLM app.

Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

What the file says

# ML Project Lifecycle

Use this skill as a gate to pass through, not a menu to skim: framing the problem, choosing the model, and shipping it safely.

## When to use

- Training a model on your own tabular, image, text, or time-series data: scoping the project, picking a model family, handling missing values, or deciding whether it is good enough to ship and when to retrain.
- Classical ML only — for prompting, RAG, agents, or evals over a foundation model, read `members/llm-application-engineering/SKILL.md` via the `ai-ml` router instead.

## Part A — Framing: get the problem right before touching a model

### Business-objectives-first

At project framing and model selection, connect the work to an observable business outcome. Answer three questions:

1. Which business problem does this decision address?
2. Which business metric does it move?
3. How will the connection between the two be measured?

Use the agreed objective to guide feature engineering and evaluation; revisit scope if a change has no plausible path to the business metric.

How to install

The exact contents, by fingerprint
mdr add fabiandistler/agents/ml-project-lifecycle@sha256:ac84d639f0b06efa

The line at the top of this page pins the label v1.0, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
