Write developer docs: README content, API references, code comments, changelog entries. Use when "write docs", "document this API", or "explain for contributors". README visuals → enhance-readme. Co-authored specs → docs-coauthor.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Documentation Writer Skill **Degree of freedom: MIXED.** Voice and structure `[HIGH freedom]`; pre-documentation checks and the verification statement `[LOW freedom — run exactly]`. Create clear, useful documentation for developers. ## This skill vs neighbors | Skill | Owns | |---|---| | **docs-writer** (this) | Developer docs: README content, API references, code comments, changelog entries | | `enhance-readme` | README visuals: theme-aware hero, feature tour, screenshots, accurate badges | | `docs-coauthor` | Co-authored specs, PRDs, RFCs, proposals in three stages | ## Core principle — write for the reader's mental model first Write in plain language. Follow [references/plain-language-ste.md](references/plain-language-ste.md): short active sentences, one instruction per sentence, one meaning per word, and no AI tells. It also has a Vale prose-lint recipe to keep the docs that way. Documentation rarely fails because it's *incomplete*. It fails because the reader can't build a mental model fast enough to care. So before any reference detail, answer the questions the reader is silently asking — in their words, in this order: …

How to install
mdr add kensaurus/cursor-kenji/docs-writer@sha256:1826af9de9af58d1The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261019.95c89e5, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
