# Writing Plans
## Overview
Translate an approved spec into bite-sized, ordered, TDD-shaped tasks. Assume the engineer is skilled but has zero context for this codebase and limited taste — document file paths, exact commands, expected output, and test design.
DRY. YAGNI. TDD. Frequent commits.
**Announce at start:** "I'm using the writing-plans skill to create the implementation plan."
Before drafting the plan, check `phase_tracker({ action: "status" })`. If `plan` is already `in_progress` (a flow restored by `/skill:gauntlet-resume` arrives this way), do **not** call `start` again - a repeat `start` on the in_progress phase resets its guard ledger. Otherwise call `phase_tracker({ action: "start", phase: "plan" })`.

How to install
mdr add jjuraszek/pi-gauntlet/writing-plans@sha256:d81baff38299775cThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261020.c79e361, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
