# src/core/marginals — header/footer emit, config, the `Marginals` lens A **marginal** is the shared abstraction over page headers and footers (the header/footer analog of `Note` for footnote/endnote — there's no single English word, hence the coinage). Three files behind the `@core` barrel: - [config.ts](config.ts) — `MarginalKind = "header" | "footer"`, `MarginalType = "default" | "first" | "even"`, and the `MarginalConfig` lookup via `marginalConfig(kind)` (part-name stem, root tag `w:hdr`/`w:ftr`, reference tag `w:headerReference`/`w:footerReference`, locator prefix `hdr`/`ftr`, relationship type + content type). Leaf data, same shape as `noteConfig`. Plus the part-name helpers `isMarginalPartName` / `marginalPartNameFromTarget`. - [resolve.ts](resolve.ts) — `enumerateMarginalRefs(document)` + `findMarginalRef`: the ONE positional walk over every `<w:sectPr>`'s header/footer references, resolving each to a `MarginalRef` (its `hdrN`/`ftrN` id, kind, placement type, owning `sN` + live `<w:sectPr>`/reference node, and the part it points at).
