Three-tier agent memory model (hot/cold/wiki) for context reduction per spawn.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# Skill: Tiered Agent Memory > **Status (v0.10.0):** This skill describes a **design proposal**, not a shipped runtime. Skill files install via `squad init`/`upgrade`, but the underlying tier scaffolding (`.squad/memory/hot/`, `cold/`, `wiki/`), Scribe promotion logic, and spawn-template tier-aware reads are tracked in [bradygaster/squad#1264](https://github.com/bradygaster/squad/issues/1264). Until those land, agents continue to load full `history.md` + `decisions.md` on every spawn. ## Overview Squad agents today load their full context history on every spawn, which grows unboundedly across sessions. The Tiered Agent Memory model proposes a three-tier separation so agents only load the bytes that are actually relevant to the current task, with older context kept available on demand. --- ## Memory Tiers ### 🔥 Hot Tier — Current Session Context - **Size target:** keep small (~2–4KB typical) - **Load policy:** Always loaded. How to install
mdr add bradygaster/squad/tiered-memory@sha256:e35e50f23e635aedThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260910.9cf5842, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
