Design, implement, and integrate generalized validation harnesses across a producer-consumer boundary after a local harness contract exists. Use when refactoring custom validation CLIs/MCPs for large polyrepos, extending Steward across sibling repos, or deploying a local tool to a consumer project for dogfooding and testing.

# Harness Engineering Lifecycle Evolve a proven repo-local contract into a generalized harness, then dogfood it across a producer-consumer boundary. Follow [work discipline](../../docs/core/work-discipline.mdx). The former `mcp-harness-repo-maintainer` skill was removed in 0.6.0. Cold start and cross-repo generalization are one lifecycle: do not add typed actions, probes, or benchmarks until a local contract exists and the native gate is the thing you rerun. Green Steward artifacts are not a product use-path. ## When to use - Evolving custom validation scripts into a central linter engine. - Extending `steward` CLI features for large polyrepos. - Testing a local CLI/harness build against a sibling repository to catch path-resolution crashes or integration friction. - Turning repeated local benchmark/probe findings into a reusable harness feature. ## When not to use - Initial `steward.yaml` adoption or first quick probe in one repo — start here; cold start is part of this lifecycle. - Skill creation, registry updates, or marketplace packaging — use `skill-authoring-lifecycle`. …

How to install
mdr add arenukvern/skill_steward/harness-engineering-lifecycle@sha256:f632ba402d3ff141The line at the top of this page pins the label v1.1.0, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
