Safe OpenClaw upgrades with snapshot, pre-flight checks, controlled upgrade steps, post-verification, and emergency rollback. Never lose your working system to a bad update again.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# Upgrade Guard 🔄 **Never lose a working OpenClaw to a bad upgrade again.** Born from 7 cascading failures during a single version jump. The gateway crashed, Telegram disconnected, plugins broke, models vanished — and the AI agent that caused it was also dead, so nobody could fix it remotely. This skill makes upgrades safe. ## The Problem OpenClaw upgrades can break in ways that are invisible until it's too late: | Failure type | Example | |---|---| | Plugin renames | `clawdbot.plugin.json` → `openclaw.plugin.json` | | Dependency breaks | SDK module paths change, exports shift | | Config schema changes | New required fields, removed fields | | Model name changes | Dot vs hyphen format changes | | Channel config wipes | Silent removal during migration | A single `git pull && pnpm install` can trigger all of these simultaneously. ## What Upgrade Guard Does ### 1. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
