Draws architecture and flow diagrams as code — Mermaid, C4, sequence, ER, and state diagrams that stay in version control and do not go stale. Use this whenever the user asks for a diagram, wants to visualise an architecture or flow, mentions Mermaid or C4, or is explaining a system that would be clearer drawn. For the prose around the diagram, use markdown-docs; for charts of quantitative data, use the dataviz guidance.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# Diagramming A diagram earns its place by answering one question faster than a paragraph could. A diagram showing everything answers nothing — it is the visual equivalent of a page with no headings. **Draw diagrams as code.** A Mermaid block in the repository is diffable, reviewable, and edited by whoever changes the system. An exported PNG from someone's laptop is wrong within a month and nobody can fix it. ## 1. Decide the question, then pick the type Match the diagram to what the reader is asking: | Reader's question | Diagram | | --- | --- | | What are the pieces and how do they connect? | Component / C4 container | | What happens, in what order, between whom? | Sequence | | What states can this be in, and what moves it? | State | | How is the data shaped and related? | ER | | What are the steps and decisions? | Flowchart | | Who depends on whom for deployment? | Deployment | Choosing wrong is the most common failure. How to install

This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
