Plan-then-workers build (tforge) for large multi-file apps; not for edits or features in existing code.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# forge
A long session re-sends its whole context on every turn, so cost ≈ turns × context size. forge keeps this session small. You plan here. `tforge` runs every implementation task in a fresh worker that sees only the contracts, its own files and its failing checks. Tests decide when a task is done.
Command: `tforge`. The plugin puts it on PATH. If it is missing, use `node "${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}/../../bin/tforge"`.
## 0. Fit check (measured)
forge pays off when work is **iterative or exploratory**: many build/test cycles, a large existing codebase, or anything you would otherwise hand to long-running subagents. There, every extra call re-reads a context of 80k+ tokens. A forge attempt starts fresh, with only the slices it needs and condensed errors.
For a small **greenfield** build (about 1k lines, written in a few large batches), one session is already near the floor, because the code's own output tokens dominate. forge measured about 1.5× more expensive there. Work inline in that case.

Workers must never explore. Exploration (grep, sed and cat slices) is what makes subagents expensive.

How to install
mdr add chteau/tokenforge/forge@sha256:9156db3b0c620a0bThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261012.e1f2858, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
