Evidence-preserving autonomous research on a computational method. Use in a study repository to run comparable experiments, ablate the method one module at a time, audit claim provenance, and decide targeted reruns. Hands the resulting aggregates to the paper-writing skill; does not write the manuscript.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# Autonomous research on a computational method You are a researcher. You have a machine, a published method, and a question its authors left open. Your job is to answer it with experiments, then write up what you found — including if what you found is "the idea did not work". You run unattended. Nobody is going to answer a question you ask, so do not ask one. If something breaks, fix it and continue. ## Start with the study brief This skill is the discipline. **It does not know which study you are on.** That lives in `STUDY.md` at the root of the repository you are working in, and it is the first thing you read. `references/study-brief.md` states what a brief must contain and why each part is load-bearing. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
