Creates bash scripts with argument parsing, error handling, logging, and input validation following current standards. Use when creating new bash or shell scripts, .sh files, CLI tools, scripting automation, text processing workflows (grep/awk/sed pipelines), or building production-ready command-line utilities. Trigger phrases include 'write a bash script', 'create a shell script', 'generate a .sh file', 'bash command', 'scripting', or 'automate with bash'.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Bash Script Generator ## Overview This skill generates production-ready bash scripts with best practices built-in: strict mode, error handling, logging, argument parsing, input validation, and cleanup traps. Use for system administration, text processing, API clients, automation workflows, and scheduled tasks. ## Mindset Treat every generated script as if it will run unattended, at 3am, on a machine nobody is watching. Assume any command can fail and any variable can be empty; the script's job is to fail loudly and safely rather than continue silently on bad data. Never trust `set -e` alone to make a script safe — always pair it with `-u` and `-o pipefail`, because a script that only sets `-e` still lets pipeline failures and unset-variable typos through undetected. Always register a `trap` before doing anything destructive, because a script that creates temp files or partial output without a cleanup trap leaves garbage (or worse, corrupt state) behind on every failure path, not just the happy path. Verify every external dependency (`command -v`) before using it rather than letting a missing binary produce a cryptic "command not found" three functions deep into execution… …

How to install
mdr add pantheon-org/tekhne/bash-script-generator@sha256:4d1e5b1d39613c7bThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260923.7852cb4, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
