Required before calling image_generate. Create and edit images from a prompt — generate an image, make a picture / logo / illustration / icon / banner / poster / thumbnail / hero image / mockup / product shot / social graphic, or edit / restyle / combine existing images from reference images. Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# Image generation
`image_generate` turns a text prompt into an image (and can edit existing
images). It routes through the Hive image service to OpenAI's **gpt-image-2**;
the cost is billed to the user's Hive credits exactly like an LLM call, so there
is **no API key to configure**. Each generated image is also saved to disk.

Defaults are deliberately cheap and fast. **`quality` is locked to `low`** —
`medium` and `high` are disabled for cost control, and any request for a higher
tier is automatically forced to `low`. Only raise `n` when the user explicitly
wants variations.

How to install
mdr add aden-hive/hive/hive.image-generation@sha256:cf5be4e557bc03a9The line at the top of this page pins the label v1.1, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
